Hatozaki Blended, Japanese Whisky
The brand behind it all
Inspired by the great gin and whisky stillhouses of the United Kingdom, the Kaikyō Distillery, located in the city of Akashi, Japan was created in 2017 as an expansion of the Akashi Sake Brewery, which has been producing distilled spirits such as Shochu since 1917.
100 years later, to honour his family heritage and to celebrate the centennial of the family distilling business, Master Distiller and Blender Kimio Yonezawa created the Kaikyō Distillery to launch his own range of gin and whiskies. He wanted to create elegant and delicate whiskies with flavours reminiscent of the warm Japanese hospitality and Seto sea mild oceanic climate - born out of the Yonezawa family’s historical expertise and the maritime influences of the port city of Akashi. The distillery uses a mix of whiskies from Scotland and casks used for several spirits (bourbon, sherry, port), made from woods including American oak, Japanese mizunara oak and sakura cherry wood.
The brand is named after the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan which, for centuries, guided seafarers into the port of Akashi and is featured on the Hatozaki Blended bottle.
