Jason-Candid's Liquid Low-Down
"Appleton Estate is the staple of Jamaica Rums. An irresistible classic that never disappoints, this is a heavy-bodied rum made by slow fermentation and marked by a distinctive bouquet. If you haven’t tasted an aged rum previously, it’s best to work your way up to this one!"

Appleton Estate is a rich and full-bodied rum with hints of vanilla, dark chocolate and toffee. Thanks to its 12-year maturation, this characterful spirit is extremely well-balanced and promises a unique experience on the palate followed with a subtle coating finish. |
The beauty of this rum is that it’s so versatile it can adapt to most occasions and serves. Have it neat or in cocktails whilst putting the world to rights with friends and family during dinner or barbecue. It’s up to you! |
This Jamaica Rum will appeal to those with an appreciation for spirits with character (which tend to be aged spirits). Most newcomers mostly prefer lighter spirit categories such as vodka, gin or light (unaged) rums, so if you haven’t tasted an aged rum previously, it’s best to work your way up to this one! |
How to Drink
This wonderfully flexible spirit is best enjoyed neat or over ice or stirred as a superb twist on the OId Fashioned or shaken in a Daiquiri. |
I generally suggest using a large chunk of ice for aged spirits versus smaller pieces. The bigger the ice, the slower the dilution. This will chill it but not kill it (over-dilute) too quickly. |
Use a large rock glass for a neat serve or with cocktails over a large chunk of ice. But ultimately, try different glasses out and define your favourite. |
What grows together goes together! So, any Caribbean (tropical) ingredients that find their way into a dish will definitely pair well. As aged rum tends to give us caramel notes, you could pair it with most desserts. |
